Restaurant Experienced - Cass Cafe

The food at the Cass Cafe is as artistic as the works that decorate the dining room. Delicious and light, the menu has many options for all sorts of diets.  The house specialty is a lentil burger.  Though it seems quite simple, the consistency is incredible and the portion is perfect.  Normally, when I think of a lentil burger I imagine a dry patty that tastes like whatever spices are put into it.  The Cass Cafe has a different idea all together.  The burger was oozy but charred on the outside which provided a really unique and enjoyable flavor!  Still, there are many other highlights to the menu, like the wild mushroom tortellini with artichoke and sun dried tomato:

Delicious and lighter than expected
The food was fresh, well prepared and artistic; the whole dining experience was very enjoyable.  The bar serves beers from all over, including Motor City Brewing Works draughts to European and Asian selections.  The best part? The meal was quick and about $12 per person including drinks. Other dishes that looked wonderful coming out of the kitchen included the salmon blt and the burrito.  I highly recommend the Cass Cafe for those who have never been.  It is a quick and tasty way to spend 45 minutes if you are looking for a place to eat while in Midtown.

The Cass Cafe sits just south of Forest Ave. on Cass about a mile and a half north of downtown.  I'm not sure if it is the location that makes the café or the café that makes the location, but either way they are perfect for each other.  Steps away from the Detroit Institute of Arts, the College For Creative Studies and a spattering of funky bars and live music venues, the Cass Cafe promotes the soul of the Cass Corridor.  Students, artists, musicians and the young at heart gravitate to the infectious atmosphere inside Detroit's art bar and restaurant.  The experience is much like eating inside a gallery, because, well... you are.  The entire restaurant is decorated with exhibits from local and nationally recognized artists.  The walls, the tables and the bar are contemporary and neutral, serving as the perfect canvas for the displays that decorate the room.

The atmosphere inside the Cass Cafe is a perfect match for the neighborhood.  When you are sitting inside, admiring the whole scene, it is hard not to feel the spirit and enthusiasm of Midtown Detroit.  The Cass Cafe represents a different demographic than many of the "signature" restaurants of Downtown, but in many ways it is more emblematic of the promise of the city.  Just like every other metropolitan area in America, there is diversity in Detroit.  People with different motives, interests, ways of thinking and hobbies all playing equally important roles in defining the future of Detroit.  The artist has always had a prominent place in our town.  Detroit has forever been an amplifier for the voice of the performer, broadcasting his or her message around the globe.  The Cass Cafe grasps that heritage and manifests it into a uniquely Detroit dining experience - and it pulls all of this off completely effortlessly. By genuinely embracing the culture of the district, the restaurant has augmented the already bustling community, harnessing the growing enthusiasm about the future of Detroit.
