What A Weekend!

Even though this is how my weekend ended, I clearly had to start off this post with a deep dish bang.

The Original Buddy's Pizza!
What a wild weekend!  With so many things going on in Detroit, it was hard to keep my head on straight. Unfortunately, the Tigers hosted the Yankees.  We had almost perfect weather for the Grand Prix all weekend on Belle Isle.  It was Pride Fest in Hart Plaza,  The Red Hot Chili Peppers were in town and we even paid homage to nature's most delicious menu item: Bacon!

Here is a list of what I did:

The Red Hot Chili Peppers at Joe Louis Arena Friday night!
Saturday night was Baconfest in Royal Oak
And finally on Sunday it was the Grand Prix on Belle Isle all day
Here is a video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers finale.  The concert was amazing!  the energy was incredible, the music funky as ever and the crowd was into it from start to finish.  Especially the finale when drummer Chad Smith brought everyone's hero, Red Wings captain Nicholas Lidstrom, on stage for one final encore after hanging up the skates:

Baconfest took place on Saturday in the Farmer's Market in Royal Oak.  Baconfest is a competition between Metro Detroit restaurants to once and for all who can prepare the most creative and delicious dishes that involve bacon.  The event was sold out and lived up to the hype in every way.  The dishes were so unbelievably unique and rich that I almost could not try one of everything.  But by some heavenly power I was able to persevere. Here is a quick peek into the wonderful experience that Baconfest was:
Bacon pudding... My favorite!
Fried pork belly
Bacon carmel apples!
Bacon wrapped pork belly
Bacon chocolate chip cookie with bacon ice cream
Bacon-carmel spread with cheese for dipping
Finally, the weekend was capped off with the Grand Prix on Belle Isle.  The whole event was more grandiose than I expected.  As a non car guy, it was still very easy for me to enjoy the celebration and the competition.  When the track started falling apart and the race had to be shortened, there were still plenty of fans crowding the grandstands and various attractions to keep the event full of energy to the (abbreviated) end.

Video...

What a weekend. Eat well everyone.
